Technique

   Posted by: admin   in Theory

There is so many painting techniques, and they are very important.

Despite graphics and drawing sketches where the line is basic expression, paintings express themselves through paint, and off course through balance between lines and paint.

To produce painting technique is most important. Technique is an action applied while making painting.

It is the way for creating art depending of methods and assets. In wider sense by the name of  ‘’technique’’ it can be considered a way of making art in specific period style or epoch, while in another it means one specific way to create art.

Painting techniques are based on pigment and binder mixture.

Binder purpose is to fix paint on wood, canvas, wall, paper, parchment, metal, glass etc.

Wood was the most common used painting surface until 16th century, later,   renaissance artists begun using linen canvas which is resistant, elastic and provides solid base for painting.

Since Renaissance painting on canvas became dominant. In order for surface to receive the paint it first must be covered with thin layer of melted wood glue which provides protection from damaging the canvas.

White chalk, plaster or melted pigment (mixed with binder, for example is casein) is the next layer which equate surface.

Some of the techniques are: tempera, oil, acrylic, enamel paint, glaze, gesso, ink, watercolor etc.
